Why developers dictate prompts
Working with AI coding tools is mostly writing: describing a bug, explaining the change you want, giving context the model can’t see. Most people speak several times faster than they type, and spoken prompts tend to be longer and more specific, which is exactly what gets better results from Cursor, Claude Code or ChatGPT. Dictation turns a two-line prompt you couldn’t be bothered to type into the full paragraph the model needed.
Why on-device matters for code
When you dictate a prompt, you’re describing your codebase, your architecture and often unreleased product plans. With a cloud dictation app, that audio goes to one more vendor before it ever reaches your coding tool. VybeScript transcribes and rewrites on your Mac, so the only place your words go is the app you’re typing into.
Technical words, spelled right
General-purpose dictation stumbles on developer vocabulary. VybeScript lets you teach it corrections (what it hears → what you meant) and add custom terms, up to 100 entries. The free Dev & AI tools word pack covers the usual offenders out of the box:
| What dictation hears | What VybeScript writes |
|---|---|
| cube control | kubectl |
| super base | Supabase |
| post gres | Postgres |
| next j s | Next.js |
| clawed code | Claude Code |
| m c p | MCP |

Pick how polished the prompt should be
- Raw for verbatim input, like a commit message you’ve already phrased.
- Clean (default) removes “um”, “like” and false starts but keeps your words.
- Polish tightens rambling explanations and turns spoken lists into bullet points and step-by-step instructions into numbered lists, which is useful for task specs.
- Formal for the PR description or the email to the client.
A typical vibe-coding loop
- Put your cursor in the Cursor chat, Claude Code prompt or ChatGPT box.
- Hold
Controland describe what you want, the way you’d explain it to a colleague. - Release. Clean text appears in the prompt box. Review, hit enter.
