Why on-device dictation matters for law practices

Most AI dictation tools record your voice, send it to a cloud server, and transcribe it there. Many are well secured. But every vendor that processes client information is one more party to vet, one more policy to read, and one more place a privileged detail exists. With VybeScript there’s nothing to vet on that front: the recording, the transcript and the rewrite are produced on the Mac in front of you and go only into the app you’re typing in.

You can verify this yourself. Turn off Wi-Fi and dictate; it works the same. And we back it with money: if you ever catch VybeScript sending your audio or transcripts off your Mac, you get a full refund, at any time.

VybeScript is a writing tool, not legal or compliance advice. Your firm’s own confidentiality and technology policies still apply.

Legal vocabulary out of the box

General dictation stumbles on Latin and legal terms of art. Import the free legal word pack and VybeScript corrects them automatically:

What dictation hearsWhat VybeScript writes
vwar deervoir dire
hay bee us corpushabeas corpus
in lemonyin limine
lease pendantslis pendens
nunk pro tunknunc pro tunc

Add your own clients, matters and judges’ names in Settings → Vocabulary. If a term keeps coming out wrong, email it to us and you’ll get a fix within 48 hours.

For firms: the Team Pack

$349 once covers five people (up to 15 Macs), every future update, a custom vocabulary pack we build for your firm (client names, matter names, practice-area terms), and a 30-minute onboarding call with the founder.

Questions

VybeScript processes everything on your Mac: recording, transcription and AI cleanup. It doesn’t upload audio or text, doesn’t require an account, and doesn’t read your screen. The only network connections are license activation, update checks and a one-time speech-model download. Whether it fits your firm’s policies is your call, and it’s easy to verify with Wi-Fi off or a network monitor.
Nuance discontinued Dragon for Mac in 2018 (more on replacing Dragon). VybeScript is a modern, on-device option for everyday dictation on Apple Silicon Macs, with a legal word pack and AI cleanup. It doesn’t do voice commands for controlling your computer the way Dragon did; it’s focused on turning speech into clean text.
Only if you turn on transcript history in Settings, and then it’s stored only on your Mac. You can clear it at any time.
