For a quick text, Apple Dictation is fine. VybeScript is for writing you actually send. It removes “um” and false starts, can tighten or formalize what you said in four styles, and learns your names and jargon. One hotkey works in every app, and everything still runs on your Mac. Yes, for dictation. Recording, transcription (NVIDIA Parakeet by default, Whisper if you prefer), and all four writing styles run locally with no network round-trip. VybeScript only goes online to activate your license, check for updates, and download the Parakeet model once on first launch (about 470 MB — dictation works on Whisper while it downloads). For the Clean, Polish, and Formal writing styles, yes. They use Apple Intelligence (Apple’s on-device Foundation Models), so they need macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on in System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. Every Apple Silicon Mac can run it, as long as Apple Intelligence is available in your language and region.

Without it, transcription is exactly as accurate, since the speech engine doesn’t use Apple Intelligence. What changes is the cleanup: Clean, Polish, and Formal fall back to basic cleanup that removes fillers like “um” and repeated words, but doesn’t rewrite grammar, adjust tone, or create bullet points and numbered lists. Raw works the same everywhere.

Yes. Teach it heard→corrected substitutions (“super base” → “Supabase”) and it applies them automatically with either speech engine. You can also add custom terms — names, jargon, product names — which help the Whisper engine recognize them. It holds up to 100 words, and you can import or export a list to share with your team. With Accessibility permission granted, yes — VybeScript inserts the transcript directly where your cursor is. Without it, the transcript is copied to your clipboard for you to paste manually.

Clean, Polish, and Formal use Apple Intelligence. Open System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn it on (the app’s Open Settings button goes straight there), then wait for its model to finish downloading. On macOS 15 or earlier, update to macOS 26 first. Until then, those styles use basic cleanup; Raw and transcription work normally.
