Features and privacy

VybeScript is closed source. How do I know it's private?

Short answer

You do not have to take our word for it. Once the app is set up, turn off Wi-Fi and dictate. It works the same, because dictation does not use a server. You can also watch its connections with a network monitor.

Details

Here is everything VybeScript connects to:

  • License check. Lemon Squeezy, to activate and re-check your license. It sends your key and your Mac's name, not your audio or text. The app keeps working offline for up to 14 days between checks.
  • Update checks. Sparkle, the update framework. The request carries the app's version information. If you choose to install an update, VybeScript downloads it.
  • Speech model download. Once, on first launch, from Hugging Face. A newer model downloads once in the background if you update from an earlier version. Parakeet may also fetch a small extra model, about 100 MB, so it can listen for the words you taught it.
  • Error reports. Only if you opt in or send one yourself. They hold technical numbers and codes, never your audio or text.

Your audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. The Polish and Formal styles use Apple's on-device model, so your text is not sent to Apple either.

The guarantee. If you ever catch VybeScript sending your audio or transcripts off your Mac, email us what you saw for a full refund at any time. See Refund policy.
