Does VybeScript send my voice or text anywhere?
Short answer
No. Recording, transcription and writing cleanup all happen on your Mac. Your audio and text are not sent to us or to anyone else.
Details
When VybeScript does go online
- To activate and check your license. This sends your license key and your Mac's name, not your audio or text.
- To check for updates.
- To download its speech models, each one once:
- The default speech model, Parakeet Ultra, about 600 MB, downloaded at first launch on a fresh install.
- A small extra model that listens for your custom words, about 100 MB, the first time you use custom words with Parakeet.
- Parakeet v3, about 460 MB, only on Macs that used earlier versions of VybeScript. It keeps dictation working while Ultra downloads, and is the backup if Ultra cannot load. In newer versions, VybeScript removes it by itself once the new model has worked for a while, and tells you how much space that freed.
- To send a problem report, only if you allow it or send one yourself (see below).
All of these models are stored and run on your Mac, and your audio never goes to them. The Whisper engine and its model are already inside the app. Updates do not download the models again.
Dictation itself works with Wi-Fi off. A license that was checked recently keeps working offline for up to 14 days after its last successful check. After that, VybeScript asks you to reconnect.
Your audio
VybeScript listens only while you are recording. The audio is deleted right after it has been turned into text. The one exception is a take of about 6 seconds or longer whose result looks cut short: the recording stays on your Mac for 30 to 90 seconds, depending on its length, so a second on-device engine can re-count the words, then it is deleted. If the app quits or crashes before that, any leftover is swept within about 20 minutes while the app is running, or the next time it starts. That sweep never runs while the app is listening. See the Privacy Policy for the exact details.
Testing options, both off by default. In Settings, the checkbox Compare engines on every dictation (testing), when you turn it on, makes VybeScript transcribe each take with both speech engines and keep a comparison log on your Mac (the two transcripts, or only numbers if you have turned off local history). A hidden developer setting can also save a copy of each recording and its transcript in a folder on your Mac. Neither option sends anything off your Mac, and Clear History removes what they saved. If you never turned them on, nothing is kept.
Your history
Local History is saved only on this Mac, and it is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings > Local History by unchecking Save local transcript history, and erase it with Clear History.
Your clipboard
To deliver text, VybeScript uses the clipboard briefly and puts your previous clipboard back after a successful paste. If it cannot paste, your words stay on the clipboard so you can press ⌘V.
After a paste, VybeScript can also watch the clipboard so it can offer to learn a fix you make. This is the Learn from my corrections option in Settings > Vocabulary. It is on by default and you can turn it off.
Problem reports
Nothing is sent on its own unless you choose Send automatically when something fails in Settings > Problem Reports. VybeScript asks you once, and you can say no. A report contains technical details and numbers only, such as your app and macOS version and what failed. It never contains your audio, your transcripts, the words you dictated, or your clipboard. If you send a report yourself with Report a Problem…, it also includes the message you type, and your email only if you add one.
Still not working?

Common questions
Does VybeScript work without internet?
Yes, for dictation. It goes online only to activate your license, check for updates, download its speech models once (the main one, plus a small extra one if you use custom words), and send problem reports if you allow them.
