VybeScript ignores the words I taught it
Quick fix
Custom words help VybeScript listen for a name, but they are a hint, not a guarantee. If a word keeps coming out wrong, add it under Corrections in Settings: type what VybeScript wrote in Heard and what you meant in Corrected. Corrections are applied automatically after every transcription.
Step by step
- Open Settings and find the Vocabulary card.
- Check the counter next to Custom words. VybeScript uses up to 100 words. If you have more, only the first 100 count and the rest have no effect. Remove words you no longer need.
- Check the spelling of each word, and add each name or term on its own. With Parakeet, a custom word needs at least 3 letters to be listened for, so very short words such as "AI" are skipped. For short words, use a pair under Corrections instead.
- For a word that is always misheard the same way, add a pair under Corrections. Enter what it wrote in Heard, then the right spelling in Corrected. Matching is by whole word and ignores capital letters.
- Fix it as you go. In the history list, click the pencil icon on a transcript, fix the word and click Save. VybeScript then offers Teach VybeScript? with the change it noticed. Learn from my corrections in the same card is on by default. With it on, if you fix pasted text and copy the corrected version within 45 seconds of the paste, VybeScript offers to learn that change too. After 45 seconds the chance is gone, so copy your fix soon after you make it. The copy has to be mostly the same text VybeScript pasted.
- Check your speech engine under Speech engine on the Transcription card. With Parakeet, custom words turn on once a small extra model (about 100 MB, downloaded once) is ready. The Vocabulary card tells you where it stands. Corrections apply either way.
Still not working?
Say the word clearly and at a normal pace. The best results come from words that sound close to how they are spelled, plus a Correction for the ones that do not. If a word is wrong in a different language than the one you chose, check Language in Settings first; see Switch languages.
