My dictation has too many mistakes
Quick fix
Check the dictation language first. Open Settings, find the Transcription card and make sure Language matches the language you are speaking. Then try a quieter spot and speak at a normal pace.
Step by step
- Confirm Language on the Transcription card in Settings. VybeScript can dictate in English or Spanish, and it is set separately from the interface language.
- Check your microphone in System Settings > Sound > Input. A wired or USB headset, or the built-in microphone close to your mouth, usually beats a laptop across the room. If your Mac's input is a Bluetooth headset, VybeScript records from the Mac's built-in microphone instead (on a Mac that has one); see VybeScript doesn't hear me.
- Reduce background noise. Fans, music and other voices make mistakes more likely.
- Speak in full phrases at a steady pace.
- Look at Writing style. Raw is exactly what you said, verbatim. Clean removes fillers like "um" and keeps your exact words. A wrong word in Raw is a recognition error; see the next step.
- Teach names and jargon. Add them in Settings under Vocabulary, and add an entry under Corrections for words that are always wrong. See Teach it your words.
- Try the other engine under Speech engine on the Transcription card. Parakeet is the default speech model and is faster on Apple Silicon. Whisper is the built-in alternative.
- If a long dictation looks cut short, click Vybe in your menu bar soon after. If it says a longer version of that dictation is ready, choose Copy longer version. That offer is only kept for about 10 minutes.
Still not working?
If one particular word or sentence is repeatedly wrong, send us a report with a short note about what you were saying: see Send a diagnostics report. The report never includes your audio or words.
